Jvalantam sarvato mukham

Nrisimham bhishanam bhadram

Narasimha Maha Mantra – Kavacha Mantra translation in English:

“I bow down to Lord Narasimha who is ferocious and heroic like Lord Vishnu.

He is burning from every side.

He is terrific, auspicious and

the death of death personified.”

Description

Lord Narasimha is the “Poorna” avatar and one of the most powerful incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is known as the preserver and upholder of dharma. Though he might appear ferocious, Lord Narasimha is highly merciful and benign.

Narasimha is frequently visualized as having a human-like torso and lower body, with a lion-like face and claws. This image is broadly worshiped and revered in deity form by a significant number of Vaisnava groups.

The Ṛig Veda contains an epithet that has been attributed to Lord Narasimha. The half-man, half lion avatar is described as:

”Like some wild beast, dread, prowling, mountain-roaming.”

It is stated in Shastra that this potent mantra is the essence of all kavacha mantras or protection mantras meant for wearing in a kavacha. Additionally, kavacha mantras have the power of defending those who recite it. The literal translation of Kavacha is armor or breast plate that the soldiers wear during wars to protect their bodies from the deadly weapons. Thus, this spiritual sadhana is very useful as a protective shield from all that is problematic in life.

Chanting benefits:

This Sanskrit mantra is very powerful, representing the prayer which can protect a person from all the obstacles in this world. If recited daily, one can experience great changes in life.

This Sanskrit mantra is commonly written on a small piece of bark, such as from the botch tree. Then the mantra is sealed in the capsule with a tulasi leaf (Ocimum tenuiflorum) or even flower petals that have been offered to the deity of Lord Narasimha. Also, due to the nature of Narasimha’s form, it is important that worship and adoration is to be given with a very high level of attention compared to other deities
