100 syllable mantra visualization:
As you recite this healing mantra, it is essential to visualize radiant light of many colors arises from Bodhisattva Vajrasattva and consort above your head and enters your Sahasrara chakra (crown chakra).
- Visualize radiant light, primarily white, coming from the image and absorbing itself within you during the first seven mantras. The moment it enters you concentrate on purifying the body’s negative actions.
- For the second set of 7 mantras, radiant healing light of many colors continues, mainly red. As this light enters within you, concentrate on purifying negativities of speech.
- For the 3rd set of 7 mantras, the primary color of the radiant light is blue. Envision mentally the light entering you and purifying the negativities of mind.
- During the 4th set of 7 mantras visualize many colors of light radiating down on you, with the fundamental colors being white, blue and red. These dissolve within you to purify the negativities of body, speech, and mind together. This mental visualization is an essential aspect of this ceremony, yet it is of utmost importance to hold the feeling of the 7 powers during the mantra chanting.
More information:
Vajrasattva is a Bodhisattva in the Mantrayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana Buddhist traditions and is the manifestation of the purity of mind, body and speech of all the Buddhas. In some esoteric lineages, Nagarjuna (one of the most important Buddhist philosophers after Shakyamuni Buddha) was said to have met Bodhisattva Vajrasattva in an iron tower in South India and was taught tantra, hence transmitting the advanced esoteric teachings to more historical figures.
Moreover, in the first chapter of the Mahavairocana Sutra (an important Vajrayana Buddhist sacred text), He leads a host of beings who visit Vairocana Buddha to learn the spiritual teachings (Dharma). In some ancient mandalas, He represents the Adibuddha or the Primordial Principle of Buddhahood. As such, Bodhisattva Vajrasattva practice is an essential element of Tibetan Buddhist purification practice.
In the Japanese Vajrayana school of Buddhism, Shingon, He is the esoteric aspect of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra and is usually connected with the student practitioner who through the spiritual master’s teachings, attains an ever-enriching subtle and deeper grounding in their esoteric practice.
