Jizo Bodhisattva mantra meaning:

”You have generated stability of thought and pure thought and eliminated the sufferings of boundless sentient beings. I see (sentient beings) receiving happiness like the wish-granting jewel, and like the vajra you remove the nets of the doubt. You (Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva) offer the Destroyer, Qualified-Gone-Beyond-Ones holy offerings with perseverance and great compassionate thought. You liberate the sentient beings from the sufferings with oceans of wisdom. Because you have no fear, you have gone beyond samsara.”

More information:

He is a Bodhisattva primarily revered in East Asian Buddhism and commonly illustrated as a Buddhist monk with a halo around his shaved head, and carries a potent staff to force open the gates of hell and a wish-fulfilling jewel to light up the darkness.

This is the ancient mantra that Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha learned from Buddhas equaling the number of sand grains of the river Ganga. Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha made offerings to them and then received this powerful mantra.

His famous vow recited daily by many Buddhists is – “Not until the hells are emptied will I become a Buddha. Not until all beings are saved will I certify to Bodhi.”

He is so compassionate that He renounces the states of Buddha, in order to rescue the sentient beings from suffering and help them to attain enlightenment.

The story of Bodhisattva Jizo was first described in one of the most popular Mahayana Sutras – Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Purvapranidhana Sutra.

This important sutra is said to have been uttered by the Shakyamuni Buddha towards the end of His life to the sentient beings of the Trayastrimsa Heaven (the second of the heavens of the Kamadhatu) as a mark of gratitude and remembrance for His mother, Maya.
